BE WISE

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.

And pray for us too, that God may open a door for our

message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ,

for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly,

as I should. Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders,

make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation

be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may

know how to answer everyone.

(Colossians 4.2-6).

THE SECRET OF BEING CONTENT

I rejoice greatly in the Lord that at last you have renewed

your concern for me. Indeed, you have been concerned, but

you had no opportunity to show it. I am not saying this because

I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the

circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what

it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content

in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether

living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through Him Who

gives me strength.

LIVING PRUDENTLY

Behave yourselves wisely (living prudently and with discretion)

in your relation with those of the outside world  making the very

most of the time and seizing (buying up) the opportunity.

“And it shall be in that day that the Root of Jesse

shall stand as a signal for the peoples,

of Him shall the nations inquire and seek knowledge,

and His dwelling shall be glory

(His rest glorious)!”

The Nature of Sin

THE NATURE OF SIN

What then do we conclude?

Is the Law identical with sin?

Certainly not! Nevertheless,

if it had not been for the Law,

I would not have recognized

sin. For instance I would not

have known about covetousness

if the Law had not said, You should

not covet and have an evil desire.

But sin, finding an opportunity, to

express itself got a hold on me and

provoked forbidden desires such as

lust and covetousness. For without

the Law sin is inactive.

Once I was alive, but quite apart from

the Law. But when the commandment

came, sin came alive and I died.

And the very legal ordinance which was

designed to bring life actually proved

death.
