MADE NEW IN THE SPIRIT

MADE NEW IN THE SPIRIT

For when we were in the flesh,

the sinful passions which were

awakened by the Law were at

work in our members bore

fruit to death.

But now we have been discharged

from the Law, having died to

what we were held by,

so that we should serve in the

newness of the Spirit

and not in the oldness

of the letter.

( Romans 7.5 and 6).

Consider these:

1) Before being reborn of the Spirit,

obeying the letter of the Law was

the order of the day.

2) After your Spiritual rebirth you

can live in new freedom to obey

our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ

by yielding to the promptings

of the Holy Spirit.

3) Daily thanks and praises to God

increase because of our new life.

4) All of this is made possible because

our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ

granted us His resurrection life

with resurrection power.

DEAD TO THE LAW

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Do you not know brothers and sisters,

for I am speaking to those who are

acquainted with the Law, that the legal claims

have power over a person only for as

long as he or she is alive?

For instance, a married woman is bound

by law to her husband as long as he lives,

but if her husband dies, she is discharged

from the law concerning her husband.

Accordingly, if while her husband lives,

she marries another man, she will be

called an adulteress, but if her husband

dies, she is free from that law, so that

if she marries another man she is not an

adulteress.

Likewise my brothers and sisters you

have undergone death as to the Law

through the crucified body of Christ,

so that you may now belong to Another,

to Him Who was raised from the dead

in order that we may bear fruit to God.

( Romans 7.1-4).

Consider this and meditate:

1) The Law stipulated the codes

of behavior that is accepted by God.

2) We are alive in a new way which

brings about true righteousness,

spiritual life and eternal union with

God through our Lord  and Savior Jesus

Christ who rose from the dead and brought

about our justification and sanctification.

EVERLASTING LIFE

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

And having been set free from sin,

you became servants of righteousness.

I speak in human terms because of the

weakness of your flesh. For just as you

presented your members as servants

of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading

to more lawlessness, so now present your

members as servants of righteousness for

holiness.

For when you were servants of sin, you

were free in regard to righteousness.

What fruit did you have then in the things

of which you are now ashamed? For the

end of those things is death.

But now having been set free from sin

and having become servants of God,

you have your fruit to holiness and

the end everlasting life.

For the wages of sin is death, but the

gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus

our Lord.

(Romans 6.18-23).

Consider and meditate on the following:

1) There are two ways of life.

2) Becoming the servant of righteousness

results in eternal life.

3) The free gift of God is eternal life in

and through union with Jesus Christ

our Lord and Savior.

TRUE FREEDOM

TRUE FREEDOM

Even so consider yourselves also

dead to sin and your relation to it

broken, but alive to God, living in

unbroken fellowship with Him, in

Christ Jesus.

Therefore do not let sin rule in you

mortal body, that you should obey it

in its lusts.

And do not present your members

as instruments of unrighteousness

to sin, but present yourselves to God

as being alive from the dead, and your

members as instruments of righteousness

to God.

For sin shall not have dominion over you,

for you are not under law but under grace.

What then, shall we sin because we are not

under law but under grace? Certainly not!

Do you not know that to whom you present

yourselves as servants to obey, you are that one’s

servants whom you obey, whether of sin leading

to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?

But thank God that though you were servants of sin,

yet you obeyed from the heart that form of  teaching

to which you were delivered.

And having been set free from sin, you have become

servants of righteousness.

( Romans 6.11-18).

Consider the following:

1) The meaning of freedom

2) Thought, purpose and action

patterns that lead to true freedom

Meditate and pray about these.

The Holy Spirit guides God’s children

into all truth and obedience to His will.

TRUE FREEDOM IS DOING THE THINGS
WHICH BRING ETERNAL DIVIDENDS

ALIVE WITH CHRIST

ALIVE WITH CHRIST

We know that our old self was

nailed to the cross with Him

in order that our body of sin

might be made ineffective and

inactive for evil, that we might

no longer be slaves of sin.

For when a person dies, he or she

is freed from sin.

Now if we have died with Christ,

we believe that we shall also live

with Him,

Because we know that Christ being

once  raised from the dead, will never

die  again, death no longer has power

over Him.

For by the death He died, He died to sin

once for all, and the life He lives, He is

living to God ( in unbroken relationship).

Even so consider yourselves also dead to

sin and your relationship to it broken, but

alive to God ( in unbroken relationship)

in Christ.

( Romans 6.6-11).

Consider the following:

1) Your life is hid in Christ.

2) The life you live is no longer yours.

3) If you have already died with Him

you live with Him, through Him.

4) Therefore the life you live henceforth

is the life of Jesus Christ.

4) You are dead to sin, but

alive to righteousness.

5) His life is true life.

6) Jesus Christ is the way, the truth

and the life.

7) Jesus Christ is the resurrection

and the life.

YOUR NEW LIFE

YOUR NEW LIFE

We were buried with Him by the baptism

into death, so that  just as Christ was raised

from the dead by the glorious power of

the Father, so we too might live and behave

in newness of life.

For if we have become one with Him by

sharing a death like His, we shall also be

one with Him in sharing His resurrection

by a new life lived for God.

We know that our old self was nailed to the cross

with Him in order that our body which is

the instrument of sin might be made

ineffective and inactive for evil, that we

no longer be slaves of sin.

For when a person dies, he or she is freed

from the power of sin.

Now if we have died with Christ, we believe

that we shall also live with Him.

( Romans 6.4-8).

Consider and pray about the following:

1) We are no longer the same person we had

been before baptism.

2) Our motivations, thoughts and actions are

now being transformed to be conformed to

the motivations, thoughts and actions of

Jesus Christ.

3) Our perspective of the world, people and

events are shaped by the Holy Spirit to be

in line with His perspective.

4) The life we live is led by the Holy Spirit.

5) We are not in charge of our life.

Jesus Christ is the Leader of our life.

6) We are no longer constrained by the

physical limits of human power and

abilities.

7) The power at work in us is the same

power which raised Jesus from the dead.

SUPERABUNDANT FAVOR

SUPERABUNDANT FAVOR

But then Law came in

to expand the trespass

and make it apparent.

But where sin increased

God’s unmerited favor

superabounded.

So that as sin reigned

in death,

even so grace ( unearned

favor) might reign through

righteousness to eternal life

through Jesus Christ or Lord.

( Romans 5.20 and 21).

OUR RESPONSE TO

GOD’S SUPERABUDANT

FAVOR

is to yield ourselves as a

living sacrifice to God

as we shall see in the

following verses.

(Those of us who were

baptized into Christ Jesus

were baptized into His death.

We were buried therefore

with Him through baptism into

death, so that just as Christ was

raised from the dead by the

glory of the Father, even so

we also should walk in newness

of life.

( Romans 6.1-3).

Meditate and pray on the immense

significance and  impact of this

new birth and new life.

AMAZING CHANGE

Friday, September 11th, 2009

Well then, as one man’s trespass (Adam’s

sin and falling away) led to condemnation

for all mankind, so one Man’s ( Jesus Christ’s)

righteousness leads to acquittal and right

standing with God and life for all.

For just as by one man’s disobedience

many were considered sinners,

so by one Man’s obedience many will

be considered righteous ( made acceptable

to God, brought into right standing with Him).

( Romans 5.18 and 19).

Consider these points:

1) Adam’s disobedience and sin brought

condemnation and death to all humanity.

2) Jesus Christ’s righteousness and His

obedience unto death on the cross by

shedding His most precious blood,

brought salvation, right standing

and eternal life.

FREE GIFT

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Nor is the free gift at all to be compared

to the effect of that one man’s ( Adam’s)

sin.

For the sentence following the trespass

of one man brought condemnation

whereas the free gift following many

transgressions brings justification.

For if because of one man’s trespass

death reigned through that one

much more surely will those who

receive God’s overflowing grace

and the free gift of righteousness

reign as kings in life through the

one Man Jesus Christ.

Well then, as one man’s trespass led

to condemnation for all men,

so one man’s act of righteousness leads

to acquittal and right standing with God

and life for all men.

(Romans 5.16-18).

Consider these points:

1) The sin of Adam concluded all mankind in sin.

2) Sin led to death and decay ( corruption).

3) Jesus Christ, the Eternal Son, the second

person of the Holy Trinity ( Godhead) being

fully God, also became fully human to give

all humanity a new start ( recapitulation).

4) Now His righteousness is imputed to us

and brings about our reconciliation and

justification.

5) We become a new creation in Christ with

His characteristics, instead of the old sinful

human nature inherited from Adam.

6) Jesus Christ reversed the guilty verdict

and gave us right standing in God’s sight.

7) Because of our right standing which we

receive through Jesus Christ, God’s grace and

extravagant favor overflow  into our lives.

OVERFLOWING GRACE

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

Thererfore , as sin came to the world

through one man

and  death as the result of sin

so death spread to all men

because all men sinned.

Sin was in the world before

ever the Law was given

but sin is not charged to

men’s account where

there is no law.

Yet death held sway from

Adam to Moses

even over those who did not

transgress as Adam  did.

Adam was a type of the One

Who was to come.

But God’s free gift is not at all

to be compared to the trespass.

For if many died through one man’s

falling away, much more profusely

did God’s grace and the free gift

that comes through the undeserved

favor of the one Man Jesus Christ

abound and overflow for many.

( Romans 5.12-15).

Reflect on these verses. Pray and thank

God for His immesurable free flowing grace.
